In March 2006, Abraão Carvalho took up the position of Head of the Unit dealing with metals, minerals and non-metallic mineral products like cement, ceramics and glass.
From 2001 to 2005, he was Head of the Unit dealing with health related industries (biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and cosmetics).
His experience has covered consumer industries (footwear and furniture) as well as pulp and paper. In 1993 he was given responsibility for the industrial sectors related with transport equipment (shipbuilding, aerospace and railways) and in 1996 for defence related industries.
Abraão Carvalho’s early career began in academia and included lecturing at the University of Lisbon and Lisbon’s Catholic University on Economic Theory and Economics of European Integration (1971-1985)
