Koopmans Rudy
Rudy Koopmans holds a PhD in Physical and Macromolecular Sciences from University of Antwerp (Belgium). Since 1983 he is active at The Dow Chemical Company in Research and Development and currently located in Switzerland. Besides his activities at Dow he is a visiting professor at Leeds University. He actively pursues an “open innovation†approach for developing innovative materials solutions that address key societal challenges.
"A new BASE in scientific advancement"
The targeted research project Bio-based Functional Materials from Engineered Self Assembling Peptides (BASE) brought together a global team of experts from Europe, China and Australia to develop sustainable and functional coating solutions. Understanding the self assembly mechanism of peptides combined with scaled production options offers innovative coatings ranging from wound dressings to anti-freeze agents for latex paints. These global efforts both bring novel perspectives on applications and leverages complementing resources.
