Professor Martin Winter holds a Chair for “Applied Material Science for Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion†at the Institute for Physical Chemistry of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität (WWU) of Münster Educated in chemistry, Martin Winter has worked on electrochemical energy storage and conversion for more than 20 years, focussing on new materials, components and cell designs for supercapacitors and lithium and lithium-ion batteries. He is the speaker of the Innovation Alliance LIB 2015 of the German Federal Government
" Lithium Ion Batteries: New Applications, new Standards?"
With increasing importance of energy storage in automotive and stationary applications, large size lithium ion batteries have received even more attention. With lithium ion being a highly variable and thus flexible technology, many different chemistries and numerous cell and battery designs are presently considered for application. Commercialization and mass production has already been started and inevitably the need for standards in reliable and safe battery products is there and needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
